My husband's been wanting some new ink for a while but was having a hard time deciding on a particular design. We talked about me drawing something for him, but that's so much pressure and I'm really not much of a drawer. I'm really more of a doodler if anything. Recently we stopped by a local tattoo shop just to get some ideas. There are certain images and motifs that are particularly popular in the Rio Grande Valley where we live and we liked the idea of incorporating something with a Mexican folk art feeling to it. After seeing lots of tattoos that memorialized loved ones, we thought it could be really cool to use the kids' names in the design as well. John spent some time consulting with one of the artists and after a few tries, suddenly knew exactly what he wanted. So he raced home to get the guy an image to copy. You're never going to guess what he came back home with.
Recognize my self-portrait stencil? (See the link in the right hand side bar.) This guy was an amazing artist. And I think he made me look pretty good, too. I especially like the golden halo. Very appropriate for me, I think. And I love the lime green vines and the scrolls with the kids' names. Marley is the name of our baby that I miscarried last Summer at 12 weeks. It just seems so right to see our whole family represented together. And there's something incredibly sexy about the man you love having not just your name but your face on his body--forever.
Tattoos are addictive. I wouldn't know. I have an impossibly low pain threshold, but I'm told it's true. Guess I better get busy working on ideas for the next one.

that for sure is very flattering!

Wow! That is certainly a compliment to you and to your family. What a great guy! The artwork is gorgeous, but he had such a lovely model to work with.
Thanks for the comment on my blog - hope you are having a good summer.

Thank you for sharing your husband's new art and the meaning behind the ink. I think the artist did a phenominal job in reflecting the love your husband has for his family and that you all share.
